Great Singing Starts Here!
Hi! I'm Kegan from Bohemian Vocal Studio (that's me to the left!). If I can be honest with you, learning how to sing wasn't easy for me - along with having a fairly low voice to begin with, I also experienced strain, tension, vocal breaks and generally lacked any high notes at all - I certainly wasn't a 'natural' singer in any form.
Let me tell you where I first started - I took singing lessons, bought courses, books, DVD's and saw some of the top voice coaches out there - only to be given exercise after exercise and just told to "practice this sound to get better" only to find myself straining and struggling again - and increasingly out of pocket.
Want to know what changed absolutely everything for me as a singer?
After almost ten years of this frustrating and expensive dance skipping coach to coach and going method to method - I started to suspect there was something seriously wrong with my voice, or even that I just didn't have what it takes to become a better singer.
Does this sound familiar?
If you're wondering whether you really have what it takes to become a great singer - or whether you've just got a bad voice by design; the answer is actually MUCH simpler than you're thinking.
The answer for me wasn't tricks, advanced techniques or marketing terms like Edge, Open Throat, Glottal Compression, Cry, Vowel Modification, Mixing or Belting; the true answer to all my problems after ten years of struggling to sing was actually foundation, in the form of The Four Vocal Fundamentals;
- Height In The Vocal Tract
- "All In One Flow"
- Mixed Tonality
- Forward Placement
That's right, these four fundamentals are the reason I'm here today as a professional singer and well respected voice coach and are the ONLY four concepts you'll ever need to learn to become a better singer. The truth is, every other technique and advanced singing concept out there can be boiled down into these four basic fundamentals like this;
Vowel Modification, resonance tuning, yawning, raising the soft palate, narrowing the vowel and open throat technique all relate to Height In The Vocal Tract. Diaphragmatic breathing, compression, the power push, lateral support, appoggio and prop ALL relate to "All In One Flow" aka consistent airflow. Masque, placement, twang, Nyah/Nyaa/Nay exercises, brightness and edge ALL refer to Forward Placement and a bratty tone, mix, blending resonance, connecting chest and head voice and the TA and CT muscles ALL create Mixed Tonality.
Foundation in singing really is very similar to the foundation of a house - the rock solid base that your 'walls' (tone) and 'roof' (range) are built upon. Without a strong foundation, your range and tone will suffer and the walls of your house will crumble. By setting up a bullet-proof foundation for your voice in the beginning stages of learning how to sing, you will ensure ongoing progress and tangible success as a singer by following The Foundation Vocal Method.
Instead of me continually telling you how AMAZING it is to sing with such effortless freedom and power, here's a few quick examples of what I'm achieving now as a singer with this simple but effective approach to vocal foundation - Imagine the powerful and effortless voice you're going to enjoy when you master the four vocal fundamentals!
Don't forget, I wasn't a natural and I really did struggle with the basics and keeping it all together until I found my vocal foundation using the four simple but effective Vocal Fundamentals.
The Best vocal coach ever! Before sessions with Kegan I knew a lot about singing (SLS, CVT, Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy KTVA and other methods) but couldn't use what I know. I wasn't able to apply over-complicated concepts and simply thought that I just have no talent for singing. Sessions with Kegan HELPS me sing songs and understand my voice and use it in way that I always dreamed.
