3 tips that will improve your voice instantly

3 tips that will improve your voice instantly

Welcome 2018! Here’s the top three singing tips that will absolutely change your singing voice immediately – these super common issues are easily solvable with the right information and a healthy singing technique.

These simple techniques will not only improve your singing voice, but they’ll actually help you extend your range and keep your voice healthy while you’re building a powerful voice!

#1 Learn to control your diaphragm

Support, diaphragmatic breathing, breathing low, belly breathing – it’s all referring to the same thing, controlling the diaphragm. Learn to control your diaphragm properly and you will immediately see a release of most of your strain, an increase in resonance and dexterity of your range. Remember, you breathe USING the diaphragm, not INTO the diaphragm…

#2 Learn chord closure

This is also known as adduction – learning to control the aperture of your vocal chords is an extremely important skill,  and is especially so when you want to build a full and powerful voice into your high range. Controlling the thickness and ‘closure’ of your chords is a delicate skill that does require a professional coach’s help, so book a session with me now if you’re going breathy in your high range or ‘pushing’ as you ascend.

#3 Control your soft palate

It’s not commonly shared, and is probably ‘The Secret’ that that fancy YouTube coach who’s selling an expensive course is keeping from you – learn to direct your airflow and resonance by controlling your soft palate. It’s actually a super simple muscle to train, and in fact, is the ONLY muscle out of the “Big Three” singing muscles that isn’t involuntary – meaning, right now without even the slightest vocal training you can actually control your soft palate like a pro singer.

I’ve put together a super simple guide on the top #3 singing tips of 2018 – when you’re ready, you can book a session with me and I’ll show you how to fix your voice using these simple techniques!

  1. Hi there,

    Great article!

My daughter loves to sing. She sings all day:)
She wants to learn how to sing, and she was looking for a way on the net to do it. So that’s how I came across your website. Thank you for the tips you provided, I have bookmarked your website so I can show it to my daughter later on. I am sure she will love it!
Just a question, please. Are the tips for any singing style?
My daughter wants to learn modern and not classic:)

Thank you for this excellent post!

    • Thanks Daniella! Absolutely – my style is ‘modern’ rather than classical, personally, so pop, rock and blues are my specialty.

My number one tip? Don’t push! Don’t strain! Release, Release, Release 🙂

      All the best,
